Tierra Madre is a family-owned and family-operated olive oil company founded by Rich and Alice Schutzenhofer. 

 Rich and Alice are long standing environmentalists, who both have a deep appreciation and understanding of organic foods and natural ingredients.

Rich is Vice-President of Engineering, Technology, and Sustainability and is a pioneer in sustainable manufacturing practices with over thirty years with PepsiCo in Chicago. As a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, Rich has led the application of LEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, to industry best performance in the Food and Beverage Category. Under Rich’s leadership, PepsiCo has achieved (6) LEED Silver and Gold Ratings including (2) for the largest food & beverage sites in the world to achieve the prestigious LEED Gold Rating.

Alice, originally from Melbourne, Australia, settled in Chicago and has been an educator in science, math, and language arts in the Chicago suburbs for twenty-five years.
